Question: Is there any diagrams of how to run lines for a laser 2 sailboat?
I am not sure if the only halyard that has wire is the jib, or if the main halyard also is wire rope.

Question: What’s the best way to store a Laser sailboat over the winter?
What would be the best way to store my Laser (outside) in the winter? I currently have a non-waterproof deck cover, and a waterproof hull cover on it. How could I store it so that it minimizes any chance of water intrusion / gelcoat cracking?

Hello:

I am new to this Forum, but not new to Laser sailing. I have searched the Laser Forum and find little direct information about my question.

I need some expert help from Laser folks about winter storage of a Laser.

I have a standard Laser 14. I live in Kansas where the winters are VERY cold at times.

I plan on winter storing my Laser is a heated garage. In order to save floor space, I will store the Laser from the garage rafters (not on the rafters, rather hopefully hanging the boat from a set of multiple rafters)

I have never done this before, so I need help understanding the best and safest way to do this and not compromise the integrity of the hull.

My questions are:

Do I rafter hang the Laser right side up? Or, deck facing down?

Either way, how to I support the Laser as to not damage the hull or the deck?

And last, either way, how many support straps or other options do I use, and the spacing of support straps?

Thanks in advance,

Kris

Question: could I sail from jacksonville florida to miami in a laser sailboat?
After I graduate college since i have time off I’ve been thinking of sailing from Jacksonville Florida to Miami and maybe even continuing on to Pensacola, doing the whole coast of Florida. I have a small laser type sailboat and what to try to get info on how I could prepare for this.

The Laser sailboat is generally classified as a ‘Day Sailor’, which means it is meant to be sailed ONLY during the day. You could, theoretically sail it up the Florida coast, but unless you attached running lights (you’d get busted by the Coast Guard otherwise) you would have to stop before nightfall. You would also need to carry water at the very least, if not food, and plan out your trip well. I would reccomend finding a bigger boat, with a cabin to sleep in, since otherwise it would require some serious navigation to find places to stay each night. Whatever you do, good luck.

Question: Can someone help me answer a question so I can get into a laser sailboat forum?
I’d like to join laserforums.org, a forum about the laser class of sailing, but in the registration, there is random question that asks what type of boat is a laser. I’ve tried sailboat, dingy, and everything else there is to guess. Is there anyone part of the forums willing to gove the answer, and if not, is there anyone who may have a good guess?

First, which laser? I presume that you mean the classic single-handed racing dinghy, but there are several others, both dinghy and keelboat.

Try dinghy (note the spelling; if screening is automated the system might read just strings of letters rather than meanings of words, and thus reject wrong spellings).

You could also try each of the following:

racing dinghy
single-hander
single-handed racing dinghy
International class sailboat
one-design
Olympic class
cat rigged
una rigged

Plus also some descriptors for the hull construction: not being a laser person myself I don’t know whether they are GRP or FRP or carbon-fibre or injection moulded (all four of which are used in manufacture of various racing dinghies, along with wood – which the laser certainly is not), but you would probably know which. Alternatively try each of them in turn.

Good luck.

Question: How do I thread the halyard of a laser sailboat if the rope comes out completely?
I work at a summer camp and on one of the sailboats the halyard (the rope that pulls up the sail) came completely out of the mast. It’s a laser sailboat. I need to know how to rethread the rope through the mast. Please help, we just got the boat donated to us a few weeks ago.

There is a snake that electricians use to pull wire through conduit. You can find this at Home Depot. Its kind of expensive if you’re only doing this one time.

I had to reeve line through my boom for my reefing system and what I ended up doing was taking the boom off and using a fishing weight on the end of a small piece of line and using that line as a “messenger” to pull the larger diameter line through.

Good Luck!
