Question: What is the average number of crew members on a 100 ft private motor yacht?
I know we used to have a lot more back in the old days, but with everything going high tech, how many on average are usually employed on today’s 100ft yachts? (say cruising the Mediterranean)
I’d really appreciate it if you knew the titles / ranks (??)

just got me thinking because I’ve seen quite a few cruise ships which would easily be available to the worlds elite, so why settle for a yacht when you could convert something much bigger.

Question: Can I rent/hire a small private yacht and go to Spain alone with my 5 friends?
For my 18th birthday I want to rent/hire a small yatch so me and my 5 friends can go to spain for a day or two and come back. We want a small, cheap yacht for a week.

First of all, does any of you have experience?
If not, most likely you can not even hire a yacht.
Even when you can, a small yacht is not capable of sailing across the ocean.
There are a lot of yachts being shipwrecked off the south coast of England each year, as inexperienced captains thought they could do it.
And on top of that, a week would get you to France, northern France at that, and back. No way near Spain.
If you want to have a sea adventure, go to one of the places where yachts are rented out with a crew and rent one of those, in Greece there are many, but I am sure there are more. The sea is no bathtub, every small craft is in danger without experienced crew, and in bad weather even with experienced crew.

I recently received my Master 100 ton Captain Lic. And I decided to finally take the jump from deck to the bridge. I am looking at being a captain of a 65 Hatteras. What does the captain earn annually on a private (not for Charter) yacht?

i think it really depends on the person who you drive for.how rich they are. i knew a guy who drove this guys boat, like only a 46′er and got $ 500 a week cash but only worked maybe 50 hours a month mainly in the summer, but got paid all year.
Question: What Licenses/Certifications do I need to captain a private yacht?
It is an 85′ Burger Motor Yacht, privately owned, 6 crew members, and used primarily for personal use. I don’t know the GRT, but I assume it’s under 100 tons, right?
Also any recommended courses i should look into? (CPR, Survival, Safety, etc..)
I’m planning on going in as a mate, but i want to be qualified as captain.

The overall cost will be based on the “Extras” that you select. You don’t say what the purpose is, but I’m sure you aren’t taking that many people to go Whale Watching. For food and tables figure about $ 10 per head to start. You want an area for a band and dance floor? add more $ $ $ . I use to throw Christmas parties on board large boats at a cost of $ 40,000. This would have dinner and dancing and gifts. This was back in the early 90′s.
