Question: Is there any diagrams of how to run lines for a laser 2 sailboat?
I am not sure if the only halyard that has wire is the jib, or if the main halyard also is wire rope.

No. But i’ve had two used Snarks. Their main attribute is that they’re light and can fit on a car and be walked easily to the beach or lake. Great for lakes, tough on ocean or in high wind. Charming in their crudeness but also use traditional sail configurations and can be quiet fun. I am actually fixing up an old family one I found with a new sail, some epoxy, metal tubing and elbow grease. Should be a fun lake boat.

Question: What is a good small, inexpensive, stable sailboat for a beginner with little experience?
I’ve had minimal lessons on very small boats, but I dont have time for more lessons and just want to learn by doing. However, I would rather not capsize and have to right the boat. Any recommendations? We’re on a short budget and probably would need to be day sailors with a trailer rather than paying for a slip somewhere.

Would love several suggestions of stable boats that are hard to capsize that we could learn on. Also, do we need to register a boat like that?

Thanks to all the more experienced sailors who can help me out!

Get A LASER! They are fast, competitive, easy to handle, responsive,stable, but if you do capsize they are easy to right by yourself, (refreshing on a hot day) easy to trailer, and store. Not too expensive, available in the used market. Yes, you need to register all watercraft. This is for single hand sailing, not on open ocean. If you need a cabin, or crew try a o’day, or daysailer.

Well, I know they used Square Sails. Rudder, Ballast, those things. I tried to find you a helpful link. The link I give is Viking Long-ships, maybe it get you in the right direction.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longship#Construction

Also, where it mention “Clinker” built, I not think the sailboats you study used this type hull.

Here may be a better link. Also, check for References at the bottom;

Question: Is there any advantage/disadvantage to adding weight to the center stern of a sailboat?
I recently bought 24′ sailboat, and as I was cleaning it out I noticed 4 bricks (slightly longer than bricks actually) that have ALCO engraved into them. This is my first boat and I’m not sure if I should take em out or not but I’d imagine having them there would just slow me down? Any knowledge appreciated, Thanks

it will help the boat rock less in the waves. but not worth it because it will way the boat down.
