Well the only Punta Eugenia, Mexico I can find using Google maps is a boulevard in Ensenada. Assuming that Punta Eugenia is in the vicinity that means you want to travel about 50 miles into Mexico. Assuming favorable winds, of suitable velocity and direction, and a hull speed on a 31 foot boat somewhere around 7 knots. If the wind blows strong enough to let you do 5 miles per hour it will get you there in about 10 hours. If the wind is light and you can only do 1mph it could take you 50 hours. That’s more than two days. Normally when the winds are that light though you would either drop the sails and use the engine or at least start the engine and motorsail the boat to your destination.

i really don’t think this particular boat would be the best choice to sail such a long distance.
I do know that a Santa Cruz 27 has done the trans-PAC race a few times as well as a Hobie 33. so the boat doesn’t necessarily have to be BIG, but seaworthy with a competent crew is a must! – Heck, Web Chile sailed around the world in an open boat 18 ft in length – a Drascombe Lugger!

Question: How long would it take to yacht from Seattle to Los Angeles?
Assuming modern power yacht.
Answer:
Answer by Capt. John
Your ETA will be 83 hours and 8 minutes
from a heading from Seattle at
Latitude: 47° 38′ North
Longitude: 122° 20′ West
To a heading at Los Angeles at
Latitude: 34° 05′ North
Longitude: 118° 22′ West
The navigatable coastline distance is 832 Nautical Miles…
Experienced sailors would estimate a ETA of 70 to 100 hours actual cruising time.
83 hours crusing time would be a good estimate based on an average speed of an average powered sea worthy vessel.
The 70 to 100 hour window is based on:
the fact that I have no earthly idea of what your version of a “modern power yacht” is…
and also your cruise time can be greatly affected by weather…
You will also be cruising against the flow of El Ninyo,
And of course the type or kind of “power yacht” can easily make a 30 hour (or more) difference in your cruising hours.
Example: Is your modern power yacht really a “yacht” or is it a trawler? (slow) Or is it a Cruiser? (medium speed) Or is it a Figment OTM PassageMaker? (those things can be faster than speeding bullets)…
El Ninyo’s current (which runs the coast line) will be against you all the way – unless you go out to sea and around it…
Happy & Safe Boating!
PS. The above is based on an average seaworhty power vessel… Not a “yacht”…. a true yacht is 50′ LWL minimum, extremely heavy, extremely and luxuriously appointed, and extremely expensive. Even a small 50 foot yacht (and that is small for a yacht) would cost at least $ 2.5 million, and would make that trip in one day. It also (at todays prices) would run through about $ 40,000 of fuel.
Question: Would it be more finance savvy to finance a principal home or a yacht?
Let say I have an $ 800K house with no lien, and I am making $ 100K/yr. salary. I have no debts. I’d to buy a $ 500K yacht. Would it be financially more savvy to take a first mortgage on the house to pay for the yacht up-front, or to finance the boat by itself with a boat loan? (With the least down-payment?)

Question: What would be a good family sailboat for a big lake?
We own a power boat currently, but would like to add a sailing boat to the dock to relax with. We live on a big lake, but it’s not super deep, about 26′ on average. We have a nice wind on the water and it covers most of the lake. It’ll need to have at least a porta-potty for the kids.

You may be able to find a nice used “27′ Hunter” for that lake. Has lots of amenities and fairly easy to sail even for a single person. There are some nice used one’s going for around $ 6900.
